Product description

Creative Reboot ushers in a new era of thought leadership, providing a structured pathway that facilitates building creative confidence and inspires the ability to conjure innovative solutions to complex issues. By combining detailed scholarly understanding, real-world case studies that illustrate the application of creativity, and a deck of creative card exercises, this toolkit allows you to embrace your innate creative intelligence.

Whether you are a rigid analytical thinker or an accomplished creative mind, over the course of these pages, you’ll learn to use creativity to create, diverge from, and converge into new creative pathways that demonstrate the untapped power of creativity. Creative Reboot situates creativity as a catalyst of change, alchemically reframing once impossible tasks into physical paths to action.

Barbara Doran specialises in identifying creative opportunities that respond to complex challenges and putting them into action. After having twice won the United Nations Bioethics and Art Award for Photography and displayed her work on both the national and international stage, she now teaches a multi-award winning Bachelor of Creative Intelligence course at the University of Technology, Sydney. Her education is equally as decorated, receiving her PhD in Fine Art from the University of Sydney in 2012, a Master’s in Environmental Planning from Macquarie University in 1996, and a BA in Anthropology, Psychology, and Philosophy from the Australian National University in 1992.

Working in multiple industries (as an actor, sustainability advisor, and in a children’s hospital), I found this book tapped into many ways I could expand and inspire more creative problem solving. The common myth is that the creative process is innate to creative professions - we need tips and tricks to invigorate our practice. this book fills a gap.

I love Creative Reboot. It is practical and inspiring. You can use it when planning a creative session and find numerous tools to help you at your fingertips. Or, if you are looking for personal inspiration, opening up the book or picking up a card always helps to get the creative juices flowing again. You can be an experienced creator or a novice. The beauty of this book is it doesn't matter. It is fit for every stage of the creative journey. Best of all, it enables you to get started. It is easy to use, well-designed, and beautifully presented, and the cards are practical and visually expressive. It's a book, tool and joy to use—a must have for everyone on their creative journey.

From the moment I picked the book up, to unboxing it, to reading it, it is a sensory experience. The weight, the substance, and the aesthetic. That theme of 'creativity is physical' runs through the book, with clear, concise, and actionable ideas that are easy to imagine as they are grounded in the visceral. Creativity is a concept, and it is an action, and it is the name of an experience. As an innovator I need to keep my practice fresh and sharp and to do that I need an experience and call to action. That is how I engage others when I facilitate magic, so it is how I need to be engaged with. Throughout I had a sense of Dr Barbara Doran being present with me, using story to evoke the content. End to end a sensory experience that is both creativity and about creativity. Highly recommended for experienced and emerging lovers of innovation, creativity, and fun thinking.
